Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink. Gen. 21:19
God permitted Abraham to get rid of his slave wife Haggai and her son because the boy disrespected Abraham’s wife, Sarah. Subsequently, Haggai and her son wandered in the desert until they were exhausted and famished of water. As the situation worsened and her son was about to die of thirst, Haggai sobbed bitterly and the merciful God provided her water in the desert. According to the above text of the scriptures, God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water from which she gave the boy a drink, and the boy lived.
The Lord is compassionate and often doesn’t treat us as our sin deserves. Haggai and her son may not merit a drop of water yet the Lord answered her outcry with a well that is unlimited in grace to refresh thirsty souls. If God responded to Haggai and saved her son from death, He won’t delay answers to prayers of the saints to save souls that are weary or hell-bound.
On the above occasion, God didn’t provide water through a rock but simply opened Haggai’s eyes to see the provision made before her need arose. My friend, every requirement for your peace and refreshment today, tomorrow and beyond is ready. My prayer though, is that your eyes will be opened to see and your heart enlightened with good understanding to comprehend His way. Again, if the son of a mere bond woman was granted tender mercy without measure, then God will indeed grant every branch of the tree of promise the abundance.
Water is a basic need for life sustenance, so is the word of God essential to refresh weary souls. Let the Lord endue His church with this bread of heaven and give revelation for its right application.
Fill my cup, Lord: I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.
